Where can I sell a coin collection in the UK?GoldPaid buys coin collections by post across the UK, from pre-decimal and pre-1947 silver to crowns, commemoratives and world coins. Send a photo on WhatsApp, request a free prepaid Royal Mail label, and post the collection for a no-obligation valuation. We value it free of charge and return everything free if you decline.

Ask before you post, always

Send a few photos of the coins, in their albums or trays if that is how they are stored, on WhatsApp. You get an honest steer before anything is posted. GoldPaid works entirely by post across the UK, with no shop to visit and no counter pressure.

What we buy

  • Pre-1947 and pre-1920 UK silver, valued for silver content and collector interest
  • Pre-decimal British coins, pennies, shillings, florins, half-crowns and crowns
  • Commemorative and proof sets, and Royal Mint presentation packs
  • World and ancient coins, single pieces, country runs and whole albums
  • Whole collections, albums and accumulations, sorted or not

Got gold sovereigns, Krugerrands or bullion coins? Those are valued primarily on their gold content, so the right page is sell gold and silver coins. Mixed lot? Send it all and we will sort it.

How it works

  • Ask first and send photos. Photos of the coins or album pages on WhatsApp are enough for an honest indication. No charge, no obligation.
  • Request a prepaid Royal Mail label. We send a free Royal Mail Special Delivery label, tracked and signed for, or a QR code for the counter.
  • Post it when you are ready. Keep coins in their holders or trays and pack them snug in a padded box. Coins are heavy, so a sturdy box helps.
  • We assess the collection by hand. Coins are reviewed individually for silver content, date, rarity and condition, not by bulk weight alone. You receive a written, no-obligation offer.
  • Accept or decline. Accept and you are paid by bank transfer via Faster Payments. Decline and everything is returned free of charge by tracked, insured post.

How we value coin collections

Coins are valued by hand. Pre-1947 (50% silver) and pre-1920 (sterling) British coins carry a silver content value, which we assess against the live silver market. On top of that, individual coins can carry collector value driven by date, mintage, rarity and condition, so a scarce coin in good grade is worth far more than its metal. We cannot give a guaranteed figure before we see the coins, which is why we start with photos and follow with a written offer. Where a single coin would clearly do better at specialist auction, we will tell you.

Cover in transit

Your parcel is insured up to £2,500 via Royal Mail Special Delivery. The prepaid label is Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed: full tracking, a signature on delivery, arranged with that cover per parcel. Higher-value items are no problem, but please message us first so the cover and the packing approach match the value. Postage and insurance explains it fully.

If the offer is not for you

Then nothing happens except a free return. We send your items back by tracked, insured post at our cost, with no fee for declining and no follow-up. A valuation is only worth having if you can turn it down freely, so you can. See what happens if I decline the offer.

Who this helps

People who have inherited a coin collection and do not know its value, collectors downsizing, and families clearing a house who have found jars and albums of old coins. A photo costs nothing and tells you quickly what is worth posting.

Payment, once you accept

When you say yes to the written offer, GoldPaid pays by Faster Payments bank transfer to your nominated account. You give those details only at the point you accept, never as a condition of getting an offer.

Common questions

Are old British coins worth anything?

Often, yes. Pre-1947 British coins contain silver and carry a metal value, and many coins also carry collector value driven by date, rarity and condition. Common circulated coins in bulk are worth less. Send a photo on WhatsApp for an honest indication, then a written offer once we have assessed the collection. Final offers depend on inspection, condition, rarity, completeness and the current market.

Do you buy gold sovereigns and Krugerrands here?

We buy those too, but they are valued primarily on their gold content, so the right page is sell gold and silver coins. If your collection is a mix of collectable and bullion coins, send it all and we will sort it.

Should I clean my coins before selling?

No. Cleaning coins almost always reduces their value. Leave them exactly as they are and send a photo. We will advise.

What if I decline the offer?

Your coins are returned to you free of charge by tracked, insured Royal Mail post. There is no fee for declining and no follow-up pressure.
