Questions people ask before posting
Is it safe to send gold by post in the UK?
Yes. Every parcel travels by Royal Mail Special Delivery, tracked and signed for. Your parcel travels on Royal Mail Special Delivery, and Royal Mail cover may be available up to £2,500 depending on the postal method and cover level used. Use a plain padded envelope and never write "gold" on the outside. If your items are worth more than that cover, message us first: we split high-value consignments across more than one label at no charge, so every parcel stays within its own cover.
Can I ask a question before I send anything?
Yes, and most people do. Send a photo on WhatsApp, or call 07944 014111. We will tell you what we think the item is and give you an indicative figure. If it is not worth posting, we will say so. Any figure given before inspection is indicative only. The written offer comes after the XRF assay, and nothing is committed until you accept it. The line is answered 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week.
What happens if I decline the offer?
Your items are returned to you free of charge by tracked Royal Mail Special Delivery, signed for on delivery. No fee, no pressure, no obligation, and no follow-up calls trying to change your mind. The full process is on the what-happens-if-I-decline page.
How long does the whole process take?
Typically 48 to 72 hours from posting to payment. Your prepaid label is usually with you within 30 minutes during working hours. Items are normally XRF-assayed the day they reach us. Payment is sent by Faster Payments within one working hour of your acceptance.
How is my final offer calculated?
Each item is weighed on calibrated scales and tested by XRF spectrometry to confirm purity. The figure is based on the live precious-metal market on the day of assay, the item weight, and any non-precious-metal components or stones. You see a written, itemised breakdown before you decide.
Do I need ID to sell gold by post?
Yes. We ask every seller for a photograph of UK photo ID, a passport or a driving licence, whatever the parcel is worth, and we tell you at the start rather than after your items have arrived. Because it applies to everyone, nobody need read the request as suspicion of them.
How does payment reach me?
By UK bank transfer (Faster Payments) to the account you nominate. Payment is sent by Faster Payments within one working hour of your acceptance.
Do you have a shop I can visit?
No. GoldPaid is a postal service covering the whole of the UK, so there are no branches and no shop counter. Everything is handled by WhatsApp, phone and Royal Mail Special Delivery. The address on your prepaid label is our office in Clifton, Bristol, so please ask for a label and post your items rather than calling in.
