1. Purity: XRF testing
Every item received is assayed by non-destructive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry. The analyser reads the elemental ratios of gold, silver, platinum, palladium, copper and zinc to within a fraction of one per cent, with no filing and no acid.
2. Weight and the offer
Each item is weighed to 0.01g once anything that is not precious metal, such as stones, steel springs or filler, is weighed out. It is then valued on its confirmed purity and payable weight against the live precious-metal market on the day of testing, and the figure for each item is printed on your written offer.
3. How your parcel is protected in transit
Every parcel travels on Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, tracked and signed for. Royal Mail cover may be available up to £2,500 depending on the postal method and cover level used. GoldPaid can confirm the appropriate postal option before you post. If the offer is declined, the items go back free of charge on the same tracked service.
Common questions
Is this method used on every valuation?
Yes. It is the method behind every written offer GoldPaid issues, and it is published here so you can hold us to it. It is our own method, written by us: it is not certified or audited by anyone else, and this page says so rather than implying otherwise. Version 1.1, effective 11 September 2026. If an offer you receive departs from what is described here, say so and we will re-check the file.
Not the question you had? The full GoldPaid FAQ covers the rest, from postal cover and ID checks to what happens if you decline the offer.
