1. Purity: XRF testing
Every item received is checked using non-destructive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry. XRF identifies the metals at the points tested. A surface reading alone does not establish the composition of the whole item: plating, cores and different components need to be considered when interpreting the result. We do not promise a single accuracy figure for every object.

2. Weight and the offer
Each item is weighed and assessed separately. Stones, steel springs and filler are not paid as precious metal. Your written offer explains the payable metal weight and testing assessment for each item, rather than treating everything on the scales as precious metal. This does not mean that stones or components are removed before you decide. The offer also takes account of the precious-metal market on the day of testing.
3. How your parcel is protected in transit
Every parcel travels on Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, tracked and signed for. Royal Mail cover may be available up to £2,500 depending on the postal method and cover level used. GoldPaid can confirm the appropriate postal option before you post. If the offer is declined, the items go back free of charge on the same tracked service.

Is this method used on every valuation?
Yes. It is the method behind every written offer GoldPaid issues, and it is published here so you can hold us to it. It is our own method, written by us: it is not certified or audited by anyone else, and this page says so rather than implying otherwise. Version 1.3, clarified 9 October 2026 to explain surface XRF limits and the difference between total item weight and payable metal weight.
