Why GoldPaid was built this way

Rocco Clayfield started GoldPaid because selling scrap gold in the UK was, for most people, an opaque business: a scratch on a stone, a figure across a counter, and no way to check either.

What he built instead is narrow and dull on purpose. Every item goes through a non-destructive XRF assay. The offer arrives in writing with the purity, the weight and the rate on it. If the seller says no, the parcel goes back tracked and signed for at our cost, and that is the end of it.

The method every item goes through

  1. Non-destructive XRF assay. X-ray fluorescence measures purity without scratching, filing or acid damage.
  2. Weighing to 0.01g. Mixed lots are split by carat first so 18ct is never valued as 9ct, and anything that is not precious metal comes off the payable weight.
  3. The market on the day. Each item is valued on its confirmed purity and payable weight against the live precious-metal market on the day of testing.
  4. Written breakdown, no obligation. The itemised valuation goes out on WhatsApp or by email before anyone is asked to accept it.
