Speed, in their words and in ours
Speed matters alongside price and safety, so the numbers are set out plainly. On 11 September 2026 Vintage Cash Cow’s how-it-works page gave an offer “within 7-14 days” and money “within 2 working days” of acceptance, and its jewellery page gave “Receive your offer within 7 working days. Either accept and get paid the same day”. They publish both themselves, and a box that may hold cameras, toys, medals and jewellery takes longer to appraise than a parcel of precious metal.
On GoldPaid’s side the stages are a label usually within 30 minutes between 8am and 9pm, Royal Mail Special Delivery to our Bristol office (postal time itself is Royal Mail’s), assessment usually on the day your parcel arrives, a written itemised offer, and payment by Faster Payments, which we aim to send within one working hour of your acceptance. If you decline, the free tracked return goes back the same way.
Specialism: one offer for the box, or a figure per item
Vintage Cash Cow’s model is one appraisal and one offer for everything in the box. For a mixed clearance that is efficient, and it is the honest logic of a generalist. The trade-off is that you cannot see what any single item contributed to the figure. For precious metal that matters, because value concentrates: one unhallmarked chain that assays at 18ct rather than 9ct can be worth more than everything else in the box, and inside a single job-lot figure you would never know. GoldPaid’s offer is itemised because the XRF assay is itemised: confirmed purity, exact weight and the rate used, per item, in writing, before you decide anything.
The category lists tell the same story from both directions. Platinum and dental gold appeared nowhere on Vintage Cash Cow’s published items-we-buy pages on 11 September 2026, and its “items we don’t accept” page states that coin-only collections are taken only when they weigh 5kg or more. GoldPaid buys platinum, dental gold and single coins with no minimum. Equally, digital cameras, sunglasses and vintage toys are on their list and will never be on ours; if your clear-out is mostly that, they are the right kind of buyer and we are not.
One overlap deserves a plain word. Both companies buy medals and militaria. Whoever you send them to, be ready to say whose they were and how they came to you: GoldPaid asks about provenance as a matter of course and cannot buy items without clear ownership.

The useful question is not whether it is legitimate but whether a generalist box appraisal or a specialist itemised assay fits what you are selling.
