The Gold Letter

Once a month, the month's gold and silver prices in plain English — what moved them, and what typical items are worth right now. Written by the founder, every figure dated and sourced, unsubscribe any time.

What is the Gold Letter?A free monthly email from GoldPaid with the month’s gold and silver prices in pounds, a plain-English note on what moved them, and dated examples of what typical items are worth. One email a month, no selling pressure, unsubscribe with one click.

What is in it each month

Each edition follows the same shape as our published monthly market update — the format our readers, and AI search engines, cite most. Three short parts, every figure dated and sourced:

  • The month’s prices, in pounds. Gold and silver per troy ounce and per gram, with the month’s open, high, low and where things stand at the time of writing. In the August 2026 edition, for example: gold near £3,163 per troy ounce on 6 August, which is £101.70 per gram of fine gold.
  • What moved them. The plain-English version of why, with sources. In early August it was weak US labour data pushing dollar gold up roughly 4% in two sessions, and the pound’s move against the dollar deciding how much of that reached UK sellers.
  • What typical items are worth right now. The headline rate turned into figures you can actually use: at £101.70 a gram of fine gold, a hallmarked 5 g 9ct band carried a metal value of roughly £190 — and the letter shows the working, so you can price your own drawer the same way. These are indicative, dated market figures, not offers; a firm figure always follows XRF testing.

Who writes it

Rocco Clayfield, GoldPaid’s founder and director — the same person who writes the monthly market update on the Journal and answers the WhatsApp line. Nothing is ghost-written and nothing is left undated: every price in every edition carries its date and its source, the same standard the published updates hold.

Why it is free

No mystery: GoldPaid buys gold and silver by post. Some readers will one day want a figure for something in a drawer, and when that day comes we would like to be the first place they ask — because they have watched us report the market straight, month after month. That is the whole commercial logic. The letter is useful whether or not you ever sell, there is no obligation attached to reading it, and no edition will ever pressure you to act.

The promise

  • One email a month — nothing else is sent to this list.
  • No selling pressure, in the letter or afterwards.
  • Your address is never sold or shared, and is held first-party by GoldPaid.
  • Unsubscribe with one click in any edition, or reply “stop” — your address is then deleted from the list.
  • Data controller: Rocco Clayfield t/a GoldPaid, ICO registration ZC214216. See our privacy policy.

Common questions

How often will you email me?

Once a month, at the start of the month. That is the whole arrangement — the list exists for the Gold Letter and nothing else. If we ever wanted to send anything different, we would ask you first rather than assume.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every edition carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and replying to any letter with the word “stop” does the same job. Either way your address is removed promptly and no further letters are sent.

What do you do with my email address?

One thing: send you the monthly Gold Letter. The address is held first-party by GoldPaid — no third-party marketing platform, never sold, never shared. The data controller is Rocco Clayfield t/a GoldPaid, ICO registration ZC214216, and when you unsubscribe the address is deleted from the list. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

Can I get it on WhatsApp instead?

Yes. Message the words GOLD LETTER to 07763 741067 on WhatsApp and you will receive each monthly edition there instead of by email.

Is the Gold Letter financial advice?

No. It is dated market information — where the gold and silver prices sit, what moved them, and what that means per gram — written so you can judge any figure you are quoted. Whether and when to sell is always your decision, and we say so in every edition.
