How can I tell if my bangle is solid or hollow before posting?Tap the bangle lightly against a hard surface, a solid bangle gives a dull, single note; a hollow bangle rings noticeably. The scale on arrival gives the definitive figure either way.

Short answer

GoldPaid buys 22ct gold bangles by post UK-wide: plain bangles, churi sets, filigree work, kara, kada, broad-cut and engraved bridal bangles, single bangles and matched pairs. Each bangle is XRF-tested for 916 purity, weighed on a calibrated scale, and the gross-vs-net gold weight is shown line by line. Free prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery label, bank transfer on acceptance, free return if declined.

Plain bangles, hollow bangles and the trap most people fall into

22ct gold bangles split into two categories that look almost identical from the outside but differ enormously in fine-gold content per piece: solid bangles and hollow bangles.

A solid bangle of 60mm internal diameter and 4mm round profile weighs roughly 20-25 grams of 22ct gold. A hollow bangle in the same external dimensions weighs 6-10 grams, about a third of the solid weight, because the inside is air. Hollow bangles were introduced in the 1990s as a way to offer larger-looking jewellery at a lower price point, and they remain common in modern Indian and Pakistani gold ranges.

On arrival, the calibrated scale and the XRF give the actual figures: weight in grams to two decimal places, purity confirmed at 916. There is no negotiation on which one yours is, the scale tells the truth, and the written offer reflects exactly the fine-gold content. Solid bangles offer materially more per-piece value than hollow ones of the same size.

Filigree, jali work and stone-set bridal bangles

Filigree and jali (lattice) work bangles look heavier than they actually weigh because much of the external dimension is open space. They are still genuinely 22ct gold; the gold content is just less than a solid bangle of the same external diameter.

Stone-set bridal bangles use uncut polki, kundan or coloured stones along the outer face. The stones are either set in 24ct gold foil cups (kundan) or claw-set in higher-carat gold settings. Where stones can be removed safely, they are returned to you with the offer; where they are foil-set and removal would damage the bangle, the gold weight is calculated by deducting an estimated stone mass, shown line by line on the written offer.

Pairs, sets and matched bridal commissions

Many of the bangles posted to us come in pairs or in matched bridal sets, a dozen or more bangles commissioned together, often as part of a wedding trousseau. Pair-pricing is straightforward: each bangle is weighed and valued separately, and the offer shows the per-bangle figure alongside the set total.

If you have a set you are considering selling whole, you can also ask us to split the offer: which specific bangles are worth most, which are hollow, which are stone-set. That sometimes leads to selling only the lower-sentiment pieces and keeping the rest. There is no rule that the whole set has to go.

Posting bangles safely and the parcel-cover question

Bangles are awkward to post because they are rigid loops. Pack each bangle inside a small box (the original presentation box where possible) or wrap individually in bubble wrap, then place inside a larger padded outer carton with crumpled paper or polystyrene to stop movement.

A pair of solid 22ct bangles can easily reach £1,500 in bullion value at recent gold rates; a full bridal set of twelve bangles routinely exceeds the standard £2,500 Special Delivery cover. For any parcel that may go above £2,500, message us before posting and we will pre-arrange the higher cover level so the value is fully protected door to door.

What happens, from first message to payment

  • A photo and a question. Send photos of your 22ct gold bangles on WhatsApp. We reply with a quick indicative figure and answer whatever you want to know.
  • A prepaid label, on request. Ask for the label when you are ready and we send a free, tracked, signed-for Royal Mail Special Delivery one, or a QR code for the counter.
  • You post it. Any padded envelope is fine, posted whenever you choose.
  • We assess and write it up. Calibrated weighing plus an XRF assay produce a written, itemised offer for you to read at home.
  • Your decision. Accept for payment by Faster Payments, or decline for a free, tracked, insured return.

Cover in transit

Royal Mail Special Delivery cover may be available up to £2,500 depending on the postal method and cover level used. The prepaid label is Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed: full tracking, a signature on delivery, arranged with that cover per parcel. Higher-value items are no problem, but please message us first so the cover and the packing approach match the value. Postage and insurance explains it fully.

Changing your mind is free

Declining costs you nothing. If the written offer does not suit you, say so, and your items come straight back by tracked, insured Royal Mail post at our expense. No fee, no questions, no chasing. See what happens if I decline the offer for the step by step.

Payment, once you accept

When you say yes to the written offer, GoldPaid pays by Faster Payments bank transfer to your nominated account. You give those details only at the point you accept, never as a condition of getting an offer.

Why this is a calmer way to sell

Three things make GoldPaid a steadier route than a counter sale. You see a measured valuation in writing, not a verbal estimate. You decide at home, with nobody waiting. And if you decline, the return is free, tracked and insured, so obtaining the valuation costs you nothing.

Common questions

My bangles do not have any markings. Can you still value them?

Yes. XRF testing reads the actual gold content non-destructively, marking or no marking. The result is shown on the written offer.

Will you buy odd single bangles or only matched pairs?

Both. A single bangle is valued the same way as a pair: by weight, carat and fine-gold content. There is no minimum order.

What happens to the stones on my bridal bangles?

Removable stones are returned with the jewellery. Foil-set stones stay in place and the gold weight is calculated with the stone-mass deduction shown line by line.

Are filigree bangles worth less than plain bangles?

Per piece, yes, because filigree work removes mass. Per gram of fine gold the rate is identical. The XRF and scale give the truthful weight.

How are pairs returned if I decline?

Both bangles are repacked in their original layout (or in matched protective packaging) and sent back fully tracked by Royal Mail Special Delivery at our cost.
