Ask first. Post later, or not at all.
You can ask as much as you like before anything is sent. Photos on WhatsApp give us enough to offer a quick indicative figure on your 14ct gold, and we will tell you straight if something is not worth posting. Nothing moves until you say so.
Selling with GoldPaid is done entirely by post, anywhere in the UK. There is no shop to find and no pressure at a counter, because there is no counter.
What 14ct gold is
14ct gold carries the fineness mark 585. It is 58.5% pure gold, with the rest made up of other metals for strength and colour. It is more common in imported and American jewellery than in traditional British pieces, so it often turns up in inherited or holiday-bought items. You may also see it stamped 14k or .585.
Whatever the carat, GoldPaid pays for the confirmed gold content. 14ct items are weighed and XRF-assayed exactly like any other, a piece marked 585 is never paid at the wrong rate. For how the marks work, see the gold hallmark guide.
What 14ct gold we buy
- 14ct jewellery, rings, chains, bracelets, earrings, lockets and pendants
- Broken, worn, single or damaged 14ct pieces, condition does not matter, we pay for the metal
- Hallmarked and unhallmarked 14ct gold
- 14ct items mixed in with other carats. We separate by carat before valuing
Not sure of the carat, or cannot read the mark? Send a photo on WhatsApp, the XRF assay confirms it for certain at no cost, so you never need to identify anything before posting.
How selling works here
- Start on WhatsApp. A couple of clear photos of your 14ct gold are enough for us to give you a quick indicative figure at no charge.
- Claim your free postage. We issue a prepaid, tracked, signed-for Royal Mail Special Delivery label, or a QR code for the Post Office.
- Post in your own time. Any padded envelope works, and there is no deadline to meet.
- Get a written valuation. Each item is weighed on calibrated scales and read by XRF spectrometry, and the itemised offer is sent to you in writing.
- Accept or walk away. Acceptance means payment by Faster Payments; declining means a free, fully tracked return.
How we value what you send
Every offer is built from three measurable facts: confirmed purity, accurate weight, and the live precious-metal market rate on the day we assess your items. You see each figure in a written breakdown before you decide anything. See how we value gold and XRF testing explained for the full method.
Indicative 14ct rates are published on our gold calculator, currently around £59 per gram. That figure moves with the live market and is a guide only; your firm offer follows the XRF assay of your specific items.
Cover in transit
Your parcel is insured up to £2,500 via Royal Mail Special Delivery. The prepaid label is Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed: full tracking, a signature on delivery, arranged with that cover per parcel. Higher-value items are no problem, but please message us first so the cover and the packing approach match the value. Postage and insurance explains it fully.
If the offer is not for you
Then nothing happens except a free return. We send your items back by tracked, insured post at our cost, with no fee for declining and no follow-up. A valuation is only worth having if you can turn it down freely, so you can. See what happens if I decline the offer.
Who this helps
This page suits people with imported or American gold jewellery, and anyone who has inherited pieces bought abroad. 14ct sits between 9ct and 18ct in purity, so it is worth meaningfully more per gram than 9ct.
Payment, once you accept
When you say yes to the written offer, GoldPaid pays by Faster Payments bank transfer to your nominated account. You give those details only at the point you accept, never as a condition of getting an offer.
Why this is a calmer way to sell
Three things make GoldPaid a steadier route than a counter sale. You see a measured valuation in writing, not a verbal estimate. You decide at home, with nobody waiting. And if you decline, the return is free, tracked and insured, so obtaining the valuation costs you nothing.
Common questions
Do you buy broken or unhallmarked 14ct gold?
Yes. Condition does not matter. We pay for the metal content, so broken, worn and single items are all welcome. Unhallmarked gold is fine too; the XRF assay confirms the carat for certain.
Why is some of my jewellery 14ct when most UK gold is 9ct or 18ct?
14ct is more common in American and imported jewellery than in traditional British pieces. It often appears in items bought abroad or inherited. It is genuine gold and valued for its 58.5% content like any other carat.
What if I decline the offer?
Your items are returned to you free of charge by tracked, insured Royal Mail post. There is no fee for declining and no follow-up pressure.
